Matt Hellyer, the winner of last year’s JUCY Loves Snow photo competition has received his snow board & JUCY travel voucher. He won the prize which we posted to Australia which was collected by his parents on his behalf which he picked up when he visited them for Christmas.
Matt and his best friend Dani, who both feature in the winning picture (below) talk to us about their JUCY Experience & snowboarding!

Lucy, “How did you hear about the competition?”
Matt: I was on a Virgin Blue flight to northern NSW and read their in flight magazine and saw the JUCY Rental deal giving a free lift pass per vehicle to Treble Cone. I then went and looked up the JUCY Rental’s site and joined their facebook page. In all of this looking around different websites, I found the ‘Jucy Loves Snow’ competition.
Dani: Matt told me!
Lucy, “What do you do for a living?”
Matt: I am a student at University in Canberra studying Architecture. I do casual work as a lifeguard and in schools as a teachers assistant working with children with disabilities.
Dani: I am also a student at University in Canberra studying nutrition. I do casual work as a Personal Trainer.
Lucy, “How long have you been snowboarding for?”
Matt: My first snowboarding experience was at The Remarkables in NZ in 2003. My brother and I hitchhiked around the south island for 2 weeks. The snow fields were closed for 2 days before we went due to too much snow and being unable to comb the runs. When we went, conditions were perfect with lots of snow.
Dani: My first time was at Blue Cow in Australia on a 3 day school snowboard trip in 2002. I have been on a few day trips each year or 2 and am slowly getting the hang of it.
Lucy, “Where are your favourite places to go snowboarding?”
Matt: Well I have only been in NZ and Australia. I would have to say my favourite place out of those would have to be in Australia when there is good snow. The ski runs are lined with trees which makes the scenery a lot nicer and you can find your own tracks through the trees. The snow in general has been better in NZ. Next destination, Canada.
Dani: I’ve also only been in NZ and Australia. Perisher would be my favourite place so far because theres lots of different runs to try and get lost in. But am definately looking to head to more exciting locations such as Canada also.
Lucy, “How often do you rent with JUCY?”
Both: It was the first time we both have rented with Jucy and our experience was awesome. We used most of the vouchers that JUCY provided. We used Hamner Springs 2 for 1, Milford sound cruise 2 for 1, Willowbank Wildlife Reserve 2 for 1 and of course the Treble Cone lift passes for 3 days. We are now also looking to rent again as we have the $300 voucher. Regardless we would highly recommend renting with JUCY, there were 4 of us, all Uni students and they provided everything we needed at a very reasonable price.
Lucy, “What you enjoy about the JUCY service / products?”
Both: The freedom to choose our own adventure, great customer service, the fully self contained vans providing all the essentials we needed and the vouchers. The after hours service was a life saver as we had left our passports in the safe of the van and realised at 10.30pm Friday night, we flew out 6am Saturday morning! Thanks so much for the late night ordeal. We made it!

Again, a big JUCY Congratulations to Matt & we look forward to seeing you in NZ when you use up your JUCY travel voucher!
JUCY Rentals Ski for Free is coming back in 2011 with free skiing at Treble Cone. Keep an eye out for more winter promotions – you never know you could be our next big winner!
